Home Fire Safety Check       http://www.mawwfire.gov.uk        NEW!

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service are giving you the opportunity to have a home visit to provide home fire safety advice and supply and install smoke alarms free of charge. These checks are the cornerstone of the proactive role the Service  adopts in its drive to reduce the deaths and injuries that are caused by accidental fires in the home.  You can request a home fire safety check for yourself or a dependant relative by contacting the Service on 0800 169 1234.  Go to the website to find out all about the Fire and Rescue Service.

Adobe Reader                       http://www.adobe.com

Many government organisations, including Powys County Council, have created their websites using the Adobe Portable Document Format (pdf).  It is versatile, flexible and well suited to producing complex documents.  Moreover, it is viewable and printable on most operating systems, including Windows.  The catch?    Unlike other files, like  .txt,  .gif,  .jpg and many others, a  .pdf file will not open directly onto a Windows- based PC but has to be  "adapted" to suit your operating system. To do this, an Adobe Reader program has to be up and running on your PC.  So, if you do not have this application on your PC, the good news is that you can download it for FREE from the above website.  On the Home page, select the "Download Adobe Reader" box.  You will have to choose the version that matches your operating system. i.e., there is a different version of Adobe Reader for Windows 2000, 2003, NT, XP, etc.  Once installed, it is well worth having, allowing wider access to information on internet

Powys County Council              http://www.powys.gov.uk

A well designed large website that gives access to all information and services provided by the various County Council departments, including Planning, Library Services, Recreation facilities, etc.  It also provides links directly to the websites of other public bodies, such as the Powys Local Health Board, Powys Police, Directgov (Welsh public services) and the Welsh Assembly Government with its ghastly photos of its elected members (AMs).  Worth a few minutes exploring the options on the Home page and beyond.  As mentioned above, most of its information pages are .pdf files.

Llandrindod Wells Town Council        http://www.llandrindod.co.uk

Powys Transport Map     http://www.cartoplus.co.uk/powys_bus
